Restoring hope amidst tragedy

In the wake of the devastating 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, NRIM responded with unwavering faith and purpose to bring relief, restoration, and hope to the people of Sri Lanka. Our efforts, carried out in collaboration with local partners, aimed to address immediate needs while laying the groundwork for long-term recovery and development.

Relief Efforts in Tsunami-Affected Areas

NRIM partnered with mission teams and local workers to reach the most devastated regions of Sri Lanka. Our work included:

  • Assessing the Impact: Visiting disaster zones and camps, including areas managed by various local and international authorities.
  • Providing Support: Delivering financial aid and essential resources for immediate relief efforts.
  • Rebuilding Communities: Partnering with local churches and leaders to restore facilities destroyed by the tsunami and support those leading recovery efforts.

Strengthening Local Partnerships

NRIM worked closely with dedicated individuals and organizations to strengthen local capacities:

  • Collaborating with leaders like Pastor Selvarajah to plan leadership conferences and future mission initiatives.
  • Supporting local workers and identifying potential collaborators for long-term projects.
  • Offering targeted aid to individuals and churches significantly affected by the disaster, ensuring they could rebuild and continue their work of serving others.
